Kathryn Tucker Windham, one of Harper Lee's closest friends, will kick off our 50th anniversary celebration of "To Kill a Mockingbird" on the precise publication date fifty years ago. Ms. Windham will share a few never before told stories of the beloved Monroeville author, before talking about the re-issue of her own inspiring tale, "Ernest's Gift". She will then sign copies of the new release, as well as numerours other titles.

We're also using this event to announce the availability of two slipcased 50th anniversary editions of "To Kill a Mockingbird" with original book jacket design and ribbon marker, and most importantly the bookplate signed by Harper Lee.

One lucky Alabama Booksmith customer will receive this awesome treasure when their name is drawn. To register, make a $5 donation to the Alabama Humanities Foundation. The winning entry will be drawn in  exactly one month - August 11 at 6:00 CST. The other copy is offered in a silent auction, going to the highest bidder at the same time as the drawing. Check our website at www.alabamabooksmith.com or e-mail booksmith@mindspring.com, or call 205.870.4242. 100% of the proceeds go to the Alabama Humanities foundation.

Rick Bragg in the Movies

Even though you weren’t able to attend the September 26, 2011, sold-out world premiere of Alabama’s Rick Bragg: Out of the Dirt, here’s your opportunity to view the entire movie at home, as well as much bonus footage not seen in the original documentary.

Listen in on distinguished Alabamaians, local friends and family tell inside tales on Rick as a child and award-winning best-selling author. Rick also gives his life’s philosophy in many scenes. Find out about his mother’s poetry; hear his aunt tell of dressing him as a girl when he was a tot. If ever there was a priceless gift, this is it.

You may order the two DVD (22.95) set through our secure, encrypted link Here

We also have signed copies of every edition of every Rick Bragg title ever written. You may view those by Clicking Here
