Franklin Daugherty |

Franklin Daugherty lives in his native Mobile where he teaches English at the University of South Alabama. The graduate of Duke, Tulane and Yale has taught English in Saudi Arabia, Japan, Egypt and Argentenia. He also studies German, French and Spanish. As if it were not enough for a former journalist to become a great author, he had the good fortune of having Eugene Walter as a mentor.
Franklin's spoof of Mardi Gras and old Mobile society is a hoot of a read. Isle of Joy is enjoyed by all who appreciate a marvelous story, well told. The reader need not know the inner workings and traditions of old deep south cities like Mobile, New Orleans and Savannah to appreciate this winner.
Rick Bragg in the Movies
Even though you weren’t able to attend the September 26, 2011, sold-out world premiere of Alabama’s Rick Bragg: Out of the Dirt, here’s your opportunity to view the entire movie at home, as well as much bonus footage not seen in the original documentary.
Listen in on distinguished Alabamaians, local friends and family tell inside tales on Rick as a child and award-winning best-selling author. Rick also gives his life’s philosophy in many scenes. Find out about his mother’s poetry; hear his aunt tell of dressing him as a girl when he was a tot. If ever there was a priceless gift, this is it.
