William C. Carter, French professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, is respected worldwide as a Proust authority. He produced the award winning film, Marcel Proust: A Writer's Life and authored The Proustian Quest. His mammoth biography, Marcel Proust: A Life, was selected by The New York Times as one of their Notable Books and was named both Biography of the Year and Non-Fiction Book of the Year by Foreword.

His latest book, Proust In Love from Yale University Press, frankly discusses the adolescent Proust's lovelife and its impact on his writing.
