Charles Gaines is a native of Birmingham and graduated from Birmingham Southern College. He still resides in Birmingham half the year. His first novel, Stay Hungry, was nominated for the National Book Award and became a major motion picture filmed in Birmingham. Gaines has subsequently been nominated for an Emmy and is acclaimed as one of the nation's premiere outdoors writers. His latest work, The Next Valley Over, has sold out of its first printing.
