Aileen Kilgore Henderson lives in Brookwood and is a former school teacher. She served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II as an airplane mechanic and a photo lab technician. Mrs. Henderson was named Children's Author of the Year by the Alabama Library Association, won the Milkweed Prize for Children's Literature and was selected for the New York Public Library's list of 1998 Books for the Teen Age.
