Rodney Jones

Rodney Jones graduated from the University of Alabama. He won the American Writing Programs Award, a Guggenheim fellowship and a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts.

He was a recipient of the National Book Critics Circle Award for Poetry, the Jean Stein Award of the National Institute of Arts and Letters, the Kenyon Review Poetry Award, and the Lavan Younger Poets Award from the Academy of American Poets. He has been acclaimed a world class poet by his peers, but our favorite quote is from 1998 National Book Award winner Gerald Stern who said, "Rodney Jones, in my view, is one of the two, or, at most, three best poets of his generation."

Books by Rodney Jones include the following:

Salvation Blues: One Hundred Poems, 1985-2005
Kingdom of the Instant
Elegy for the Southern Drawl
Apocalyptic Narrative and Other Poems
Transparent Gestures
Things That Happen Once
The Story They Told Us of Light
The Unborn

Rick Bragg in the Movies

Even though you weren’t able to attend the September 26, 2011, sold-out world premiere of Alabama’s Rick Bragg: Out of the Dirt, here’s your opportunity to view the entire movie at home, as well as much bonus footage not seen in the original documentary.

Listen in on distinguished Alabamaians, local friends and family tell inside tales on Rick as a child and award-winning best-selling author. Rick also gives his life’s philosophy in many scenes. Find out about his mother’s poetry; hear his aunt tell of dressing him as a girl when he was a tot. If ever there was a priceless gift, this is it.
