Dale Short was born in Shanghi, wrote for The Jasper Eagle and now lives in Birmingham. He was educated at Samford University and The University of Alabama at Birmingham. His work has appeared in Redbook, The New York Times, Newsweek, The Oxford American and USA Today. He received Redbook magazine's Outstanding Young Writer in America Award in 1977. Dale studied under Jesse Hill Ford with "The Group" at UAB.
