Don Noble

When University of Alabama English professor Don Noble was asked by the Alabama Center for Public Television & Radio in 1988 to host a series of interviews with writers, he agreed without hesitation. Since venturing into television, Noble has hosted hundreds of episodes of Bookmark, the Emmy Award-winning literary interview program.

On Bookmark, Noble engages writers in a thoughtful and extended discussion about their lives, creative influences and, of course, their literary works. He says if it works it looks like a conversation, rather than a formal interview or an interrogation. Noble interviews journalists, poets, novelists, and screenwriters for the series.

In addition to his television work, Noble does book reviews for Alabama Public Radio. He also edited and wrote the introduction to Climbing Mt. Cheaha: A Collection of Stories by Emerging Alabama Writers from Livingston Press. And now Don has edited A State of Laughter: Comic Fiction from Alabama.

Rick Bragg in the Movies

Even though you weren’t able to attend the September 26, 2011, sold-out world premiere of Alabama’s Rick Bragg: Out of the Dirt, here’s your opportunity to view the entire movie at home, as well as much bonus footage not seen in the original documentary.

Listen in on distinguished Alabamaians, local friends and family tell inside tales on Rick as a child and award-winning best-selling author. Rick also gives his life’s philosophy in many scenes. Find out about his mother’s poetry; hear his aunt tell of dressing him as a girl when he was a tot. If ever there was a priceless gift, this is it.
