Winston Groom

Winston Groom grew up in Mobile, graduated from the University of Alabama and, until recently, lived in Point Clear. While he is known worldwide as the creator of Forrest Gump, Winston is highly respected for his serious work of fiction and non-fiction, much of which is based on the time he served in Vietnam. He has been nominated for the Pulitizer Prize, and he won many prestigious writing awards throughout his career.

The Crimson Tide: An Illustrated History of Football at the University of Alabama sold out of the first printing in less than 30 days. It is truly the finest book of its kind we've ever seen. We were so impressed that we prevailed upon Winston and the University of Alabama Press to allow us to publish a companion edition in a gorgeous crimson leather with gilt edges and a cloth page marker. We only printed 323 copies, which were signed and numbered. Copies of this printing have become quite collectible.

Winston's, Patriotic Fire: Andrew Jackson and Jean Laffite at the Battle of New Orleans, was chosen as our June 2005 Signed First Editions Club title.

Rick Bragg in the Movies

Even though you weren’t able to attend the September 26, 2011, sold-out world premiere of Alabama’s Rick Bragg: Out of the Dirt, here’s your opportunity to view the entire movie at home, as well as much bonus footage not seen in the original documentary.

Listen in on distinguished Alabamaians, local friends and family tell inside tales on Rick as a child and award-winning best-selling author. Rick also gives his life’s philosophy in many scenes. Find out about his mother’s poetry; hear his aunt tell of dressing him as a girl when he was a tot. If ever there was a priceless gift, this is it.
