WHEREVER THERE IS LIGHT is based on the true story of traditionally African-American colleges in the 1930s rescuing Jewish-German professors and bringing them to the United States to teach. One such fictionalized case is presented with the faculty member's son falling in love with the university president's daughter. During those times, black-white romance was not just difficult, it was illegal. Later in the tale, the son becomes a hero in World War Two and the young woman's picture-taking transitions her into one a leading photographer in Paris.
