A HOLOGRAM FOR THE KING takes the reader to far-away Saudi Arabia to show how a man fights to hold himself and his splintering family together in the face of the global economy's collapse.

DAVE EGGERS (pictured below from our Wall of Fame) Dave Eggers made an indelible impression on Birmingham when we hosted him at the Alys Stephens Center on March 1, 2003. At the end of his talk he asked the audience for the name of a cool bar close by - and then invited us all to the Garage Cafe and picked up the tab for the first round. His generosity here is merely an extension of this man's persona. His non-profit 826 Valencia writing and tutoring center in San Francisco has been copied around the country, including in our area with the Desert Island Supply Company. He has won more writing awards than we have space to list, but must tell about his being forward thinking years ago with his book Zeitoun, about a Syrian immigrant helping neighbors after Katrina who was arrested and abused. As you can tell by this lengthy note, we are huge fans. Thank you Dave Eggers for signing our books.
